Music, dance and culture of the Imazighen, the indigenous peoples of North Africa.
Tiwizi in Berber means ‘cooperation’, ‘mutual aid’: a characteristic feature of Amazigh culture, which has a strong sense of individual freedom (the Imazighen are ‘free men’), but where everyone is responsible for the collective well-being of the community. A visit to a village in Kabylia will introduce us to the places and practices of direct democracy handed down over thousands of years and still valid today. The Franco-Algerian performer and choreographer Fasia Kati will present a contemporary vision of traditional dances from Kabylia, while the Folies Berbères company from Metiss’Art (Milan) will pay tribute to Idir, the recently deceased icon of Berber singer-songwriters, and involve the public in an open lesson on collective dances from village festivals. To conclude, a concert by the Moroccan singer-songwriter Yuba will feature some pieces from his repertoire, which focuses on the defence of Berber identity.
Organised by Associazione Culturale Berbera. In collaboration with Metiss’Art.
The event is organised in the framework of the project “New publics from A to Zebra” promoted by Associazione COE in collaboration with Fondazione ISMU and funded by Fondazione Cariplo.
Live at the Festival Centeror on the Facebook page of the Berbera Cultural Association.
