Synopsis
Melrick, 13 years old, lives in France but every summer returns to French Guyana and his grandmother, rediscovering his roots and the musical tradition of Carnival. However, a tragic shadow weighs over the family. In a French overseas territory marked by a history of slavery and ongoing violence, through a story which combines reality and fiction, Melrick sets off on a difficult path of growth, between awareness and forgiveness.

Biography
Maxime Jean-Baptiste (1993) grew up in the Guianese and West Indian diaspora in France. His work delves into the complexities of colonial history, focusing on archives and forms of reconstitution to conceive a living, embodied memory. His films have travelled to numerous festivals, including Berlinale, Sundance Film Festival, The International Short Film Festival Detmold (ISFF Clermont-Ferrand), and International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. Listen to the Voices (2024) is his first feature film, which world premiered at the Locarno Film Festival and won the Special Jury Award Cine+ in the Cineasti del Presente Competition.
