Biography
Yoro Mbaye is a Senegalese filmmaker who explores his country's contemporary society through short fiction films and documentaries. His works, such as Journée Noire, about police violence, and Famara, about the situation of undocumented deliverymen in Paris, have been selected for several international festivals, including Clermont-Ferrand. In October 2021, Yoro took part in the Ouaga Film Lab with Fagadaga, his first feature-length project, winning four prizes. He also received writing assistance from the CNC and a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in 2022. He presented the same project at the Fabrique des Cinémas du Monde at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023. In 2024, he finished directing his short film, Lees Waxul. Yoro is also a producer. In 2020, as a producer with the Yennenga Center, he co-produced, alongside France, Canada, and Côte d'Ivoire, La Nuit des Rois, a feature film directed by Philippe Lacôte and nominated for an Oscar in 2021. Subsequently, Yoro joined the Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris, a professional training program for young producers and distributors, co-organized by the Fémis (Paris) and the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg (Germany). In 2022, he set up his own production company, Nafi Films, with which he is co-producing Alain Gomis' latest feature, Dao, currently in post-production, his short film Lees Waxul and his feature film in development, Fagadaga.
