For the 34th African, Asian and Latin American Film Festival, this year dedicated to the idea of youth in motion told through some of the best of cinematographic production, Eni has decided to take part presenting the 1964 documentary Oduroh, by Gilbert Bovay. It is the story of a young man, Oduroh, and of the Ghanaian culture, where the camera is on the side of man and the dignity of his work, inspiring a moment of reflection and analysis on great social and geopolitical themes. The screening will be introduced by Giulio Latini, a lecturer in Multimedia Communication at the Università degli Studi di Roma “Tor Vergata”, who as well as having directed documentaries shot in Europe, Africa and the East, is an important scholar of Eni’s film production and especially of Bovay, on whom he published in 2011 the book “L’energia e lo sguardo. Il cinema dell’Eni e i documentari di Gilbert Bovay”

Oduroh, Gilbert Bovay | Italy | 1964 | 38’
The film follows the journey of a young Ghanaian who, thanks to a scholarship from Eni, leaves his village to study in Milan and acquire skills in oil refining. The film relates the contrast between his rural world and the frantic pace of the city, his experiences in Metanopoli and the discovery of a different culture, but also his difficult integration. Filmed in Ghana, Oduroh tackles the reality of a developing country, between tradition and modernity. The documentary explores the hope for a better future for Africa, highlighting international cooperation and the role of Eni in the continent’s progress. His story becomes the symbol of a whole generation seeking to transform their destiny, with a message of unity, dignity and change.
