Pawo Choyning Dorji was born in Bhutan and is a writer, photographer and director. He made his debut in the world of the cinema alongside the great Bhutan director Khyentse Norbu: in 2012 he was assistant director on Vara: A Blessing, presented at the Tribeca Film Festival and in 2016 he produced Hema Hema: Sing Me a Song While I Wait, which had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival and won a Special Mention at the Toronto International Film Festival. Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom is his first feature film as a director.
