Synopsis
A historical and romantic drama by the master of French cinema who throws an original gaze on Malian society in the 1960s after independence, the vibrant culture of twist dance and the pan-African socialist utopia. Samba travels throughout Mali with the aim of convincing the people to embrace socialism. When he meets Lara, a girl in a village, it is love at first sight but the young woman has been forced to marry against her will. Their love is threatened and with it, the future of the country as well.

Biography
Robert Guédiguian is a director, screenwriter and producer of Armenian descent. He was born in Marseille on 3 December 1953. He studied sociology in Paris and then returned to the city of his birth, Marseille; there, since 1980 he has written, produced and directed many of his films,, which have been presented at the most important festivals all over the world. They include Marius and Jeannette, Marie-Jo and her two lovers, The snows of Kilimanjaro, and the latest ones, The house by the sea and Gloria Mundi.
