Synopsis
Guled and Nasra live in the outskirts of the city of Djibouti with their teenage son, Mahad. Guled earns something to live on working as a gravedigger. When Nasra falls ill and urgently needs an expensive operation, their lives are transformed into a hell. To save his beloved wife, Guled ignores her warnings and throws himself into a last act of devotion by facing an epic journey amid the stony and desertic landscapes of the Horn of Africa.

Biography
Khadar Ayderus Ahmed was born in Mogadishu in 1982. He has made several short films which have had an excellent reception at international festivals, including The Night Thief, in 2017. In parallel with his career as a director, he is also a screenplay writer. The Gravedigger’s Wife is his debut feature film and was developed during his Residence at the Cinéfondation of Cannes in 2015. Selected at Critics' Week in Cannes 2021 the film won 21 prizes all over the world.
