The sixth edition of MiWorld Young Film Festival – MiWY, the first and only film festival from Africa, Asia, and Latin America entirely dedicated to lower and upper secondary schools for intercultural exchange, will take place from March 24 to 31, 2025 as part of the 34th African, Asian and Latin American Film Festival – FESCAAAL in Milan, with online screenings on MYmovies.it and theatrical screenings in Milan, Lecco, Lodi, Turin and Catania. At the heart of the experience will be communal viewing, meeting and engaging with directors and industry experts during post-screening discussions. Participation is free, subject to prior reservation.
This year, MiWY is at the center of the project PLOT TWIST: narratives on the present through world cinema, approved by the CIPS Plan, aimed at promoting the dissemination in schools of auteur films and cinemas from Africa, Asia, and Latin America, by privileging innovative stories about current challenges and encouraging teaching practices and participatory as well as cooperative learning methodologies, including the use of new digital media.
In-person screenings will take place from Monday, March 24 to Friday, March 28 in 5 Italian cities. The venues will be: Auditorium San Fedele and Cinema Arlecchino (Milan), Teatro Invito (Lecco), Cinema Fanfulla (Lodi), Cinema Massimo (Turin) and Cinema King (Catania). Additionally, online screenings will be available from Monday, March 24 to Monday, March 31.
The films are presented in their original language with Italian subtitles. Registrations for the next edition are open! For more information: Manuela Pursumal – coescuola@coeweb.org
The Program
Every year, MiWY features in competition short and feature films from around the world, mostly as national premieres. The program of the 6th edition includes 4 feature films and 10 short films: 2 features and 5 shorts for lower secondary schools, and 2 features and 5 shorts for upper secondary schools.
Following the collective screening and participatory discussion, each student will cast a vote for the film, contributing to the awarding of the Best Feature Film Award and the Best Short Film Award.
In addition to the in-person screenings, the details of which will be defined in the in-person screening schedule, it is possible to participate in MiWY through the #MiWYfaidate format—watching one or more films in class, managed independently by the teacher via the MYmovies.it platform. On Saturday, March 29, the Award Ceremony will take place at Auditorium San Fedele in Milan, open to schools, families, and the general public, during which the awards will be announced and presented.
